I would like to share my tips about how to maintain your blog when you’re running out of topic to write about.

Visit Other Blogs

Neighbors will always be a good place to visit and we should keep in touch with them. It should be equally applied to blog. It has been generally recognized as blog walking.

Visiting another blogs will inform us about what topics are mostly being discussed. Just read some posts that might interest you and you’ll get inspired from it. Comments left by the visitors could also inspires us to focus on a certain topic.

Don’t forget to follow the blog commentator’s link which will send us to their blog. Usually, their last post should have the same topic as the post where they have left their comments. Fortunately, there’s a nice Wordpress Plug-in called Comment-luv that makes this possible.

Blog Search

If you don’t have a list of blog to visit yet, then why not make a Google for it. Search engine will always be a good place to ask. But there also many blog directories that could be used to search for blogs, such as Technorati, BlogCatalog, etc. You can start searching for related blogs that have been registered at those blog directories. If you have found an interesting subject to read to, then visit it. Try to read through the topics or articles and leave your comments as I explained before.

Write Your Own

After doing some search and blogwalking, I’m so sure that you might found a niche topic to write. You can define your own keywords and make a post of the same topic as you’ve found from blog searching with different point of view. You can describe it yourself with a strong opinion. Don’t forget to tell your reader where did you find about the topic and if it’s possible, place a link to the topic, so you readers can verify the source. Fortunately, wordpress blog has a pingback feature. So, giving a link to a post in another blog will have the link source posted automatically just like a comment. Remember that the more comments means the more traffic :)

I think those are the basic steps when you don’t have an idea to write about and I always apply it. If you’re in the middle of this, then running out of topic is not a big deal except if you really don’t have enough time to do some search.
